In 1909, four Norwegian Lutheran families – Mr. and Mrs. Peter Burgess, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Luidahl, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin P. Johnson, and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lindevig formed the nucleus from which First Lutheran Church started. These pioneers were soon joined by others who came from the east to settle in the Lambert area. After meeting in homes and other various places for a number of years, First Lutheran Church officially came into being on January 16, 1916 as a congregation of the Norwegian Lutheran Church in America. In 1932 the congregation joined with American Lutheran Church in Richey to form a two church parish for pastoral services. This arrangement continued until 1991. In 1934 First Lutheran purchased the Holiness Methodist church building in Enid for $100 and the building was moved to Lambert. A full basement was dug, and after $400 in additional funds had been received from the Church Extension Fund the building was completed in 1935. Over 300 people attended the dedication of the church building on September 30, 1935. This building is still in use today. In 1991 First Lutheran became a preaching point of Pella Lutheran Church of Sidney, Montana and has been served by Pella’s pastors ever since. First Lutheran Church has been a part of the Lambert community for almost 90 years, and has a dedicated group of members. If you are in the Lambert area, we would be delighted to have you worship with our congregational family. God’s blessings be with you!
